Celebrating 40 years as a professional glass artist, I’ve had the privilege to work in numerous facets of this creative industry. As part of the Bromley “Glass Art” family, my early years included opening and operating 24 teaching facilities and retail studios along the east coast of the USA. In addition to our studios, we operated a fully stocked 35,000 sq. ft. warehouse/custom production studio in Atlanta, along with a satellite warehouse/production facility in Orlando, Florida. From 1979-1987, I opened studios, taught classes, developed new teaching formats, designed custom artwork, and fabricated and/or directed the completion of countless windows, panels and lamps, entry doors, sidelights and transoms.
I decided I wanted to stay in one place for a while, and fell in love with Clearwater, Florida. This is where I’ve continued to flourish and enjoy my own studio, KATGLASS, for the past 30+ years, where I have taught, trained, and employed hundreds of artists and craftspeople.
Maintaining the history of glass art has always been an important goal of mine. I’ve worked with The Smithsonian Institute to restore items from their Victorian collection and, most recently, KATGLASS was contracted to assess and catalog over two hundred windows that had been removed from The Belleview Biltmore Hotel, in Belleair Florida. KATGLASS won the honor to restore 28 of those panels to be repurposed as a lighted ceiling for the Tiffany Event room in the fully restored Belleview Inn, which is listed on the national register of Historical Properties.
At KATGLASS, we are passionate about the quality of our work. As a full-service studio, my team and I work in all areas of residential, commercial and ecclesiastical art glass installations. We specialize in traditional painted and leaded glass, copper foil and Tiffany style art glass.
On the more contemporary side, our 3-D glass art sculptures with fusing and lampworking make for unique glass objet d’art. I like to include hand blown and vitrigraph murrine, as well as glass mosaics into our studio pieces to bring traditional values into our modern designs.
Our studio is a small, boutique studio with a global reach. We’ve been honored to collaborate with other glass artists to create gifts for The Pope and The Dali Lama, as well as The Emperor of Japan, but the artwork we’ve completed for hospitals, chapels and hospice, remains as some of our most joyous and favored installations.
