Writing Guidelines

Editorial Focus

Stained Glass Quarterly is a professional-level publication for the architectural stained glass industry. Manuscripts directly related to the historical, architectural, technical, business, artistic or craft aspects of the stained and decorative architectural glass craft are given first consideration. This includes articles about glass painting and staining, mosaics, dalle de verre, lamination, kilnforming, and potentialities of glass as a material. Manuscripts of peripheral or general interest may be considered.

  • All submitted articles are reviewed for content and interest to our readers.
  • Selected articles will have to meet the standards of the SGAA and of the SGQ.
  • We do not approve or publish self-serving articles (ones that read like an infomercial for a studio).
  • We will not publish articles without high-quality photography.
  • We encourage articles about the process, challenges overcome, and/or the author’s journey in producing a window.
  • We enjoy photos of the process (such as beveling, painting or making glass).

General

  • All manuscripts must be typed and submitted in Word format separate from images. Only one space between sentences, please.
  • All manuscripts must contain word count, contact information (author’s name, address and telephone number), and author’s bio. No anonymous materials accepted. Upon author’s written request, name may be withheld for published manuscript.
  • Preferred edited length of final manuscript is approximately 2,500–3,500 words. Exceptions may be made for scholarly or unusual works, or feature photography pieces.
