Workshop: Hands-On
Intermediate/Advanced
Price: $405 (Includes $80 Materials Fee)
The workshop encourages students to experience and use stained glass in Carol Shelkin’s unique, painterly fashion and understanding Impressionistic-realism in mosaic art. Students will be introduced to the tones, gradations, many colors, and values of stained glass when creating a mosaic with one or two hand-held tools. We will learn how to nip stained glass using wheeled nippers. We will “paint with glass” creating an Impressionistic-realistic mosaic still life for interior display. In this workshop, students use non-traditional mosaic andamento and fine art techniques that will be taught to understand the structure, planes in art, value and line in mosaic. Mosaic is unique to all students and my goal is to help each student develop and find their own style. You do not need to know how to draw for this workshop. There will be professional artist tricks taught. Photographic models will be provided from less challenging to advanced. Other subjects might include composition, presenting artwork to galleries, building a resume, pricing, shipping, framing – or not framing, photographing your mosaic art, and much more. Please bring your questions! The lessons taught and instruction given will last the student long after the class is over. Remember, no question will be left unanswered.

Carol Shelkin is a full-time visual artist, instructor, and mentor of contemporary fine-art mosaic. She is continuing to develop her original works, unique style, and teaching attributes. Her studies include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Studio Arte del Mosaico, Italy where she developed her painting, ceramic/pottery and mosaic methods. Her eclectic approach to surface design – placing glass where a painter would place paint – is the perfect marriage of these two loves. Carol teaches and shows her work worldwide. Her creations are described as “painting with glass” and appear in many collections, exhibitions, and galleries where they have received special recognition and awards. As a world traveler, she also offers MOSAIC ART RETREATS WORKSHOPS & TOURS in Spain, Italy, Costa Rica, Mexico, Morocco, Ireland, Australia, and France encouraging her students with gentle direction to improve their personal style. Carol is a founding member and former president of the Mosaic Society of Philadelphia, juried as a Master Artisan of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and a proud member of The Society of American Mosaic Artists. carolshelkinmosaics.com
